Steps to create a multiple exposure image using Photoshop.
- Create a new Photoshop document and drag and drop 2 images into the Photoshop document so the two images show up in the bottom right in the Layers Palette as 2 layers.
- Select the top layer, and then select "Screen" for its blending mode. You also can try experimenting with "Multiply" (The Multiply blending mode will darken instead of lighten).
- (Optional) You can Dodge Highlights by using the Dodge tool to whiten up anything that didn't turn out to be 100% white.
- (Optional) You can adjust the Curves of the image by raising the left-most lower point upwards vertically a little bit, and/or the right-most upper point down vertically a little bit; You can apply the same adjustments to individual color channels in the same Curves adjustment window as well (Red, Blue, Green).

Fashion Spread project
You've researched what it takes to be a fashion photographer, who the major players are, and what brands do to stay current. Now it's your turn to create your own fashion spread!
A fashion spread is a group of images that shows the latest in trends. Usually they follow a single story line that all of the images relate to. They can be as simple as a model riding a bike to as complicated as Annie Leibovitz's Disney Princess campaign. Your job is to make things seem hip and current, while still looking professionally done.
Requirements:
One storyline (can be multiple brands of clothing.)
10 final images that all relate to the story that you have created.
Take care and consideration in your plans. Backgrounds, clothing, makeup, and accessories, will all relate to the story if done correctly.

The next stage of the fashion research project
One of the most important things that a fashion photographer does is help establish brand identity. Brand identity is the visible elements of a brand (such as colors, design, logotype, name, symbol) that together identify and distinguish the brand in the consumers' mind. The visible elements of a brand (such as colors, design, logotype, name, symbol) that together identify and distinguish the brand in the consumers' mind. It is important to remember that photography plays a very big part in this identity.
Choose one brand that you enjoy. It can be any type of clothing, shoes, or accessories, as long as it relates to fashion in some way. You can choose a large company or a small independent designer - your pick.
Create a presentation that shows us what the brand identity of this fashion brand is. Make sure to explain to us,
The text used on the website.
How the company chooses to describe itself.
The target market (men, women, children, age, economic status?)
The images used.
Type of lighting used.
Any specific coloring in the clothing and or design of pages.
The stylistic choices made by the photographer/art director.
Do you think that it works for the brand?
What would you do differently?
Along with any other information that you find exciting or important.
This presentation should be five minutes long and can be powerpoint, video, poster board, whatever you choose!
It is due Friday, Feb 15th!

Fashion Research Project
Hey you guys, this is your job for this week. I will be back on Friday and expect this to be all in my tray at the beginning of class.
First, read the How to Become a Fashion Photographer article below, then answer these questions. Please answer each question as completely as possible.
1) What is a portfolio? What type of images should be in a portfolio of your work? How can you show your work to the best advantage?
2) What is the job of a photo editor of a magazine? What should you remember when you submit your work?
3) What is the job of a photo agent? How could using a photo agent benefit your career?
4) What are some things that you should keep in mind when looking at galleries to submit your work?
Next, choose a fashion photographer from this list.
Richard Avedon
Mario Testino
Annie Leibovitz
Irving Penn
Steven Klein
Ellen Von Unwerth
Donald McPherson
Albert Watson
Michael Creagh
Arnaldo Anaya-Lucca
Alessio Bolzoni
Aline & Jacqueline Tappia
Take a look at their work and write me at least a three page, double space, times new roman essay based on these criteria (if you go over, that's okay!):
Who is this photographer? Give me a little bit of history, if available. Check articles, their personal website.
What type of fashion are they shooting? What is the feeling that they are trying to convey? Give examples of specific work.
Critique three of their images. Please include these images in the paper. (The images do NOT count as a part of the three pages.)
How does their work change depending on the style of clothing used?
What can you learn from their style of work to help with your own work?
Everything above is due at the beginning of class on Friday 2/1. If you find yourself with nothing to do, please work on your sketchbook with that time.

Self Portrait Project
As identity is our main theme for the year, what better way to look at our own personal identity by taking self portraits?
Self portraiture is made for truth. Let's look at our own truth and show it to the world.
The self portrait project has three main components:
How you see yourself
How others see you
Yourself without you in it
A general plan for your three images is due Monday, January 7th. Please write a paragraph per image and draw thumbnails if needed.
Contact sheet is due by Monday, January 14th. Final images due Friday, January 18th.
This week, we will be looking at different photographers as well as doing demos on how to take a self portrait, how to combine multiple images in Photoshop, and how to make levitation images.
